Milagros, or miracles, were an inherent part of my culture and I still have some in my house. Usually made of silver, milagros are mini representations of all kinds of things like crosses, birds, body parts, and many other designs. These charms are typically used to petition saints for guidance, help and protection. Here in San Antonio, you can go to some churches and see walls covered in pictures with milagros attached and adorning candles. This first set of 4 milagros represents the first four charms I got as a kid from my grandmother.
This pattern is created using the overlay mosaic crochet method. Yardage is dependent on the size of the project you are creating. For the blue and white piece pictured, you would use 5 50gram skeins of each color
